More about June's Yoga

Children's Yoga

Childrenís favourites include the warm-up 'Thanking Exercise' which encourages children to wriggle gently major body parts while thanking them for their help in movement; the 'Lionís' pose, which involves a fun, lively song and a ferocious roar; and the 'Mountain' pose which demands balance and concentration.

Yoga for babies

Babies can start practising yoga as early as 4 weeks of age but be aware of their readiness and response to it as to whether it is the right time for them. Yoga helps to stimulate babyís awakening abilities and gives them a head start in the nursery for working with equipment and apparatus. Yoga encourages the spine to unfold after the foetal pose, spreading limbs, opening hips, knees shoulders and the elbow joints.

Yoga for older children

Older children enjoy partner work immensely but can get carried way with the fun and high energy levels of these poses. In the spirit of yoga the children must respect the body and ability of their partner and communicate with each other when they have stretched or moved enough in one direction

Older children can practise more challenging poses such as the 'Turtle' and 'Crow' - shown here
